Set between the late 1920s and 1970s, Women in Action recovers the history of the Malay women’s movement, which has largely been forgotten in recent memory. It features the political rallies, beauty pageants and pulp magazines of the period, which allowed for ideas around female emancipation and modernity to take hold amidst transformations in local society, and developments in post-war Malayan politics.
